I know I’m late. I was on a hiatus from the frigged cold of the shop ( the little heater wasn’t enough) was just too much.  My Father use to tell me that the heat is in the tools. It was so cold that the heat left the tools for a warmer climate. I really can’t blame the tools, I wanted to go with them.  I found out two very important things, you shake a lot when your cold and my finishes don’t like the cold as much as me. I found the the finish was just a lump of blaaaaah. it looked quite pathetic no matter what I did.  It’s really hard to make beautiful things when your materials won’t co-operate.

The process want  like this apply finish to rag……., Ok try again Apply finish to rag……., maybe the third time is the charm With all that I had  I mustered up all the conviction and will that I could  Impose on the small squirty bottle, ill crush it with my will. APPLY FINISH TO RAG !!!!!!  Phhhhtttttttttt ……. ttt……t…..  Nothing!  Ok now I used the reasoning that all pros use, you know look into the opening and see what the heck is going on here. Thank Goodness there’s no cameras in my shop because yes I looked like an idiot. No matter what I did I couldn’t coax out the magical finishing concoction.  It was like a turtle  with it’s head in the shell. So I tried warming up the shop more. I applied even more heat, more heaters all with the same effect.  It was just too cold. After two hours of heating the shop I still didn’t reach the right amount of heat to get my finish to co-operate.

So what is a Beaver to do when this happens? I’m not real sure either all I know is that it sure wasn’t finishing my pens. I’m off to warmer waters, OK I’m off to the house to warm up and watch some TV.

I’m so excited for my Show at I Made It tomorrow and Saturday, I will be putting my Etsy Store on Vacation for Early Friday and most of Saturday. It will be back Saturday night Though!!

Next week end it will be shut down on Friday Night and Back Open on Sunday, So if you’ve been eying a kit now’s the time to get it!

to the Beaver Dam!

Home of the Beaver WoodWright,  I’ve thought of moving away from Etsy and just haven’t decided what to do as of yet. So I decided to check out some options. I found a site called indiemade and I think this just might be the new home for Beaver. It has everything that I’m looking for in one place. So check out the store and browse some of my past creations that I have made and sold.  Check out the Feed back that was left for me by my customers. You’ll see that I have a few customers and very happy ones at that.

I offered to make her some wands, which thought was a good idea also. So I thought how will I do this. It has to be a simple spindle turning right? Well yes and no. My idea was to make her a wand worth of her house (poor Michelle she’s in charge of slytherein and she’s such a nice person but alas the sorting hat can’t be wrong) so I looked at the woods I had. I decided that they need to be of two different woods. Looking at my stash of magical woods, I decided that one of the wands had to be a dark wood. I found black wood and paired it with a piece of wormy splayted oak, a magical pairing for sure. The second was Padauk which I paired with rock maple. Padauk is a mystical wood from a far away land, mysterious isn’t it.  The third was a magical Honduran Rosewood paired with oak. For the fourth one I took a piece of Tiger maple and paired it with black cherry.

All of these woods matched together were wonderful choices but they weren’t completely magical yet. I figured out how to pair them after a little trial and error. Once I worked out all the bugs, I had to come up with the designs. Before making each one I tried to come up with an idea of what I thought the wands should look like. This is where the magic started. I turned, I decorated, I even stained until I came up with four wands, take a look and you tell me would you be a proud wizard with a wand like this?
